Apartment building Křídlovická

Apartment building Křídlovická
Address: Křídlovická 11, Staré Brno, Brno, Czech Republic
Project:2010-11
Completion:2013-16

The multi-storey building responds to its surroundings through its architectural structure, its surfaces, and its details.
Because the building is located in a flood zone, the ground floor is elevated due to the hundred-year flood. This is designated for commercial use, while the upper floors consist of apartments in standard sizes from 1+kk to 3+kk. Each apartment has some interesting feature that should make living in this building more enjoyable. In the basement, there are shared garages and technical facilities.
The architectural design is the result of a simple formal experiment that thematically connects to the horizontally segmented facades and historical elements of the neighboring houses. “This principle is also inscribed into the depth of the house's surface through terraces and balconies. The corner tower is softened with rounded corners and hints at the future connection between Václavská and Křídlovická streets. The building will then form a corner, which is an important context for understanding the shape of the house,” says architect Zdeněk Fránek about his project.
