Since 2003, we have been collaborating with designers, connecting them with companies and institutions, and providing them with a space to sell their creations. We established our base on Vojtěšská Street, where we have offices and until recently, an e-shop pickup point and a shop that transformed into an exhibition space for regular showcases.
Gradually, we have grown; the space on Vojtěšská was originally built for 5 people, but now there are 15 of us here. Finding a separate and dignified space for a design shop was a logical step. Last year, we found the ideal spot just a few steps from Vojtěšská on Myslíková Street.
The area around Mánes has seen a revival in recent years and is becoming an attractive zone for shopping at small businesses. Stores such as Papelote, ArtMap, THE REAL MEAT SOCIETY, SHOWTHEROOM, Soap, and the recently opened bakery Artic Bakehouse are located here.
We assembled the entire space of the new shop ourselves, with nearly all team members from CZECHDESIGN getting involved; on weekends we cleared out, painted, and moved things around. To create the design, we approached Martin Prokš, a partner at the architectural firm Prokš Přikryl Architekti.
Martin Prokš confirmed his sensitivity to revealing and working with what is original and interesting at the given location in his design. He created a strong project for us that is dignified, confident, and cozy at the same time.
The space is visually divided into two zones. The dark section is designed as a jewelry cabinet, which also accommodates the engagement and wedding rings from the Snoubení project we recently introduced. In the bright area, there is room for additional products, such as backpacks and other fashion accessories, cosmetics, glass, ceramics, porcelain, books, and paper goods.
Our long-term goal is to bring Czech design closer to the public and to eliminate stereotypes related to the inaccessibility of design. We want to show that quality Czech design can be accessible and responsible; by purchasing it, you support the local economy and tradition. The new shop was designed with customer comfort in mind.
Even in the new space on Myslíková Street, CZECHDESIGN will operate sustainably, offering only local brands and traditional products from Czech factories. We recycle, pack orders in used packaging, and minimize consumption.
