Children's rooms in the attic

Children's rooms in the attic
Architect: Eva Bradáčová
Completion:2012-13
Area:78 m2

After years, the attic of the family house underwent a complete renovation. The owners have school-age children and wanted to give each of them their own space. The division of the rooms into a boys' and girls' room was clear from the start. Colors, wallpapers, and accessories were chosen with the children's wishes in mind.
The boys' room feels a bit more spacious due to the opening up to the height near the very ridge of the roof. Therefore, it was possible to create a boys' fort above the collar ties of the roof structure, which can be accessed by a ladder or climbed up using a rope. The room has everything needed, including a computer desk and a writing desk. By the bookshelf, there is an armchair with a stereo sound system. The sloping spaces under the windows were utilized for built-in shelves. The custom-built wardrobe also follows the slope of the roof.
The girls' room is designed in white combined with pink and purple. The colors are very feminine, creating a harmonious atmosphere and complementing well with the chosen shade of the wooden floor, doors, and visible roof elements. Part of the room serves as a dance space, which is complemented by wall mirrors, RGB spotlights, a disco ball, and a hanging television. The white built-in wardrobe again follows the shape of the roof. Under the windows, there is space for a foldable sofa with colorful cushions, which serves for occasional sleepovers for friends.
In all rooms, the visible wooden supporting elements of the roof structure were intentionally left exposed, adding a pleasant atmosphere to the attic. Sometimes they were used as a base for atypical furniture, as in the case of the bookshelf in the boys' room.
Both rooms are connected by a hall with a staircase. This area is in neutral colors, and one wall features a more prominent wallpaper with ornaments. The flooring in the hall and staircase is made of panDomo in a shade of white coffee. Under the windows, there is a small, cozy seating area.
