"The ambition of the house is to preserve and complement the place, not to change it."
The site for the new house has an amazing atmosphere; a natural amphitheater - a reminder of an ancient brickworks. It is located in the center of the city with views of its landmarks while remaining hidden from the noise of traffic. Here, a steep wooded slope meets urban development; a small-scale landscape of trees, walls, and terrain jumps on one side, and on the other, a pronounced incision in the valley leading to Úvoz street lined with residential buildings.
The brief often provides a certain freedom of interpretation; however, the proposal must offer specific layouts, facades, and materials. First and foremost, we would like to present the principle by which the proposed house enters the given site - or how new activities could function in that place. The principle based on which we subsequently present a specific form (which we understand as one of the possibilities).
The center of the amphitheater remains free, defined around the perimeter by a covered promenade; which is connected to both the wooded slope and the various parts of the new house, places for individual activities, and playgrounds. The park that is to gradually emerge on the slope is thus enabled not only to access the house but to enter it. The promenade defines two different characters of the outdoor space; the wild slope and the tranquil courtyard (one of the possible keys when arranging activities) and offers the possibility of (protected) movement between the individual spaces. At the same time, it remains permeable; preserving the connection between the inner courtyard and the slope and maintaining the existing path leading through the center of the area from north to south.
The design is not closed off by a fixed composition of volumes or layouts; the overall size of the house and the size of its individual parts can be adjusted during the design process. There are plans for the construction of a partially independently operated gymnasium. Additional activities; outdoor / covered / indoor, can be added or, conversely, replaced by others - even during the operation of the already built house. The ambition of the house is to preserve and complement the place, not to change it.
