House at the Quiet Orlice

House at the Quiet Orlice
Address: Czech Republic
Completion:2019
Area:134 m2
Built Up Area:165 m2

The house has a distinctive horizontal character supported by the line of the flat roof, which connects the house and garage, and its eave also covers the wooden terrace and the entrance to the vestibule. The black and white neutral color scheme of the house both outside and inside contrasts with the changing colors of the garden. On the northern side, the building is slightly recessed into the ground – the reason being a convenient connection of the southern terrace to the adjacent terrain. The orientation of the house is to the south, with a view of the garden and a distant view of the Tichá Orlice, while the rooms of the service area and bedrooms, which are mainly used at night – the parents' bedroom and the guest room – face north.

The living space is open through generous glazing to the west and south, while the facade to the north is more enclosed; the entrance to the house is from the east. Along the entire southern and western sides is a wooden terrace protected from the sun and rain by the overhang of the roof.

The construction of the house is hybrid. The roof consists of a wooden load-bearing grid placed on steel columns and beams, insulated with over-roof insulation. The insulation of the outer shell was achieved using a layer of reflective foils approximately 30 mm thick, supplemented with acoustic insulation. The building is founded on pads. The floor structure consists of a concrete screed, anti-radon insulation, thermal insulation, and then a distribution and wear layer.
