The road to Lukovan dragged on,
the sweet scent of fruit wafted in through the window, and the pear jam noticeably slowed the tires.
Not a single molecule of air showed any interest in moving
and in the all-consuming silence, only the futile struggle of insect bodies could be heard,
bodies stuck to the road one summer day…

On the outskirts of Lukovan, in a small village near Brno, between a path and a garden, we built a simple and inexpensive house. We did so in a way that allowed us to avoid cutting down even the two non-bearing cherry trees or the invasive ash tree grown into the fence.
Conceptually, we wanted to approach the village in all its aspects, but without embellishments and illusions. We tried not to use any sophisticated materials and technologies, keeping the house simple and comprehensible for its location.
In its form, the house aims to blend into the fields, gardens, and the ubiquitous barns. It attempts to appear stable and solid, while also responding to the changes of the seasons, the weather, and family constellations.
The construction was carried out by a firm from the neighboring village, the wooden windows were made a village over, the carpenter is also from the area, and we made some things ourselves.
Structurally, it is a wooden building on concrete block foundations, the roof is made of trussed rafters, thermally uninsulated and covered with baked tiles. The partitions are built from ceramic blocks and plastered white. The interior is clad in birch plywood and the floors are mostly wooden or made of marmoleum. Outside, the house is finished with colored lime plaster and the garage is clad in cement-bonded particle boards.
The house is open to the street with a large sitting window. It is connected to the garden by a sliding French door that continues with stepping stones and a terrace, seamlessly blending with the terrain through an earthen mound.
All of this for us means ecological in its inner nature.
