For a company that specializes in custom coffee roasting from around the world, we created a representative space for tasting freshly roasted coffee. In the concept, we aimed to highlight the diversity of coffees from around the globe. The aroma of coffee evokes the scents of distant places and its origin. An exotic atmosphere, the use of traditional materials, and decorations from indigenous tribes were the core idea of the concept. Most cafes are white to sterilized clean, and therefore, we wanted to create an interior that feels more lived-in and cozy.
The interior reflects the composition of three main materials. The compact monoblock of the bar is the most prominent feature of the entire space. The front and the countertop are in black from Fundermax compact laminate. The bar is raised on a platform, which emphasizes its function. It is the place where all coffee preparation takes place. Another material used is wood. The material of the wooden floor is reflected in the slatted ceiling made of solid wood. Recessed plate lights with a diameter of 80 cm are integrated into the ceiling. In front of the bar, there is seating. The simply shaped wooden tables and chairs, also made of solid wood, underscore the individual character of the entire store. The material concept is complemented by a designer ceramic tile with black-and-white graphics. The chosen tile symbolizes the ornamental nature of ethnic patterns. On the right side opposite the bar, there is a map of the world where labels can be placed indicating the locations from which the company imports coffee.
The space is divided into two parts. The sales area is separated from the back office by a sliding wall painted with chalkboard paint, which displays the current offer. The back office contains a meeting room with a kitchenette and a restroom. Direct access from the street invites customers for a quick tasting of the best coffee.
