A small inconspicuous house located in the Bratislava district of Trnávka, once notorious as the working-class part of Bratislava's Ružinov. It is an area with a friendly scale, although its urbanism stems from excessively utilitarian densification with small buildings and occasionally feels cramped.
Such was the original state of the house's interior. It had a feeling of a cramped layout with small functional units that were tangled through the entrance spaces. The daytime areas were separated by a hallway, while the nighttime section was connected to the rest of the house by a dark corridor that led through the sanitary node. This resulted in a significant crossing of functions, which did not suit the homeowners.
The design untangled the convoluted layout through extensive construction modifications, thereby ventilating the space and more clearly defining the private and public zones. At the same time, it introduced a dominant white color that brightened the entire interior. This resulted in a staged deliberate insignificance with the possibility to personalize the space reflecting the lifestyle of a young couple and their active urban life, love for art, and "street style."
The atypically arranged layout responds to the mentioned lifestyle of the residents. The entrance occurs in medias res – the front door hidden behind a curtain leads directly into the living monospaces, which are divided by built-in furniture into functional units. The operational flow wraps around through the kitchen on one side and the dining area with the living room on the other, further continuing through a bright hallway to the bedroom and garden terrace. The toilet, bathroom, staircase, and a spacious storage area beneath create a functional buffer zone between the day and night sections. Sensitively arranged furniture pieces function as accents complementing the overall design.
