Malvina and Eda are demanding clients. Shaken by their annual lives, they can only conjure a wide smile with a few teeth or burst into uncompromising tears. Architecture does not interest them. They care only about daddy and mommy, who, however, must urgently go into the big world among other adults for a while. And so, they leave their beloved treasures momentarily in the care of smiling aunties in the nursery, among several other children from nine months to two years old. What can we offer Malvina and Eda with our architecture to ensure they are satisfied?
Malvina likes order – a kiss and off to play. Eda takes a moment to think about it, but agrees. But those parents. They struggle with the farewell. And when mom and dad are stressed, Malvina and Eda have unnecessary worries about them. We’ve therefore added waving windows where they can say goodbye one last time from the auntie’s arms, and the release of mommy is a bit easier. Additionally, it's easy to peek into the bedroom and playroom so that dads can assure themselves for a long time that their treasures are doing well. We have prepared steps for grandmas and grandpas who cannot bend down, which makes it easier for children to get dressed. For the amusement of dads, a high changing table is also ready in the locker room. Malvina and Eda say that a calm adult companion helps, but it’s not enough. They expect more.
So we tried it through the staff. When operational activities are streamlined and shortened, the aunts will have more time for Eda and Malvina. Therefore, everything is conveniently located behind a single wall full of small doors. This way, Malvina can nicely check that the aunts aren’t hiding anywhere, but have their full attention.
Malvina and Eda are also gourmets. And as professionals, we know that today, open kitchens are all the rage. Eda also gladly participates in meal preparation. And because dining is a collective experience, we seated Eda with the closest company where he wanted the most. Right in front of the aunt, directly into the kitchen. His mom can't provide that at home. And because Malvina likes to snack in the middle of playtime and outside of snack time, she has access to the low kitchen fold where she can grab what she needs at any time.
Eda and Malvina also do not recognize any conventions. If they must use that new thing called a toilet, then definitely only unisex. They hurry back to play, so they require the aunt to easily see them through a window, ready to spring into action whenever help is needed with a piece of unruly clothing or handwashing.
While Malvina prefers wild performances on yellow mats, Eda enjoys crafting and painting – he exclusively produces abstract art, supplying his loyal collector – dad. Anyway, Eda sometimes draws standing, sometimes sitting, and for a third time squatting. He also likes to involve other friends, who are all different ages and sizes. Therefore, we offer three heights of tables and chairs, and furthermore, we allow them to be combined in various ways.
But Malvina and Eda are primarily athletes and explorers, so we prepared a wild play landscape for them, where they can climb up to the red rock nest or go on an exploration of the blue cave. For their intellectual needs, a series of small motor puzzles are hidden around the nursery. And finally, despite their vitality, they like to take a nap, for which a private bedroom is provided, although it can also get quite boisterous to the displeasure of the aunts.
Eda also makes sure that the furniture, custom lighting, and acoustics meet standard requirements. Malvina checks that we sort waste ecologically and that fire protection is at the highest level. Only then do they consider the interior approved, and we can breathe a sigh of relief. Until the moment they head to the garden for a check of the playground…
