The Workers' House, designed by the Brno architect Bohuslav Fuchs, is located in the northern part of the municipality of Pozořice, on Horní Kopec in the former workers' colony, now surrounded by single-storey family houses.

The building has had multiple uses over time – it features a spacious hall and a garden for cultural events, a restaurant on the ground floor, and spaces on the second floor that were historically used by a kindergarten and subsequently a so-called children’s group.

After the closure of the children’s group, the municipality decided to systematically address the inadequate capacity of the Pozořice kindergarten by renovating the former group’s spaces and building a new classroom for 24 children.

The layout of the second floor was therefore adjusted to accommodate a spacious classroom, a playroom, a bedroom, suitable facilities for children and staff, as well as a new food preparation area including kitchen equipment and a food lift. The aim was to create a new classroom for children through construction interventions that would be sufficiently spacious, bright, and capable of cross-ventilation.

The design also placed a strong emphasis on the quality and natural origin of the materials used – a beige rubber floor, custom-made furniture from oak plywood by a local carpentry workshop, and doors made of oak veneer with side glass skylights. Part of a load-bearing wall was removed and replaced with a circular column, a new fire escape staircase was installed, the floor was renovated, the ceiling was insulated, acoustic ceilings were added, and four light tubes as well as a new recuperation system and adjustments to all installations' connections were built.

In addition to the kindergarten, there is a center for leisure activities. Both of these spaces are now accessible without barriers, thanks to a platform for the disabled that has been installed on the existing main staircase of the Workers' House.

The project was financially supported by a grant program from the European Union and the Czech Ministry of Regional Development – IROP – Preschool Education.
