Meandr, named after the nearby winding Berounka river, is an intimate co-working space providing room for several freelancers and small companies. It is located in the
Corso Pod Lipami development in Řevnice by Ehl&Koumar architects. The shared workspace is situated on two gallery-connected floors and is directly accessible from the public space, from the pedestrian link between the train station and the square.
The essential feature of the concept became the aesthetics of the building's very materiality. The walls are made of monolithic reinforced concrete, and the construction of the intermediate floor consists of massive steel beams with a wooden ceiling. We did not consider such diversity necessary to cover or smooth out in any way; instead, we wanted to highlight its atypical beauty. The structure of the inequalities and defects of the white-painted concrete creates a unique wall decor.
The architects designed generous window openings in the outer walls, flooding the space with plenty of natural light. The white-painted structures are balanced with wooden floors and window casings. The concrete ceiling is left in its original form. The natural colors of the materials used and the white walls are complemented by a set of storage and shelving areas made of blue-stained ash veneer. The furniture in otherwise muted colors is accented by several striking red elements – chairs and metal constructions. Freestanding furniture was also selected or designed from quality and durable materials – solid wood or veneer, plywood, painted metal.
