Rental apartment Kačerov II

Rental apartment Kačerov II
Collaboration:Barbora Zedková
Completion:2016
Area:52 m2

Architects from 0.5 Studio created a reconstruction of an interwar apartment in the Prague district of Kačerov in the spirit of harmony between the new and the old. For their design, they chose simple solutions that helped to better utilize the small apartment.
The investor's brief, who had already collaborated with the architects for the second time, was to create a modern and comfortable space for short-term rentals. The original apartment was in poor condition and it was necessary to change the functional layout of the space. The quality of the apartment was enhanced by a large number of preserved original elements, such as the terrazzo floor in the entrance hall or the original wooden doors.
Before the reconstruction, the apartment did not feel particularly cozy. The entrance hall lacked natural light, and this relatively large space, given the size of the apartment, had no additional use. The bathroom and toilet, which no longer met the client's requirements, were separated by a temporary partition. The too-small kitchen was located in the living area, and the original floorboards in the bedroom were covered with unsightly linoleum.
The architects newly relocated a sufficiently spacious gray kitchen unit to the hall, which corresponds with the color of the terrazzo. The hall is now illuminated by natural light through a skylight that leads into the bathroom.
The apartment received a modern face also thanks to the appropriately chosen tiles that the architects used both around the kitchen and in the bright bathroom. There, the tiles are reflected in the mirrored cabinet above the sink, creating an interesting effect.
The living room, which we enter from the hall, combines an area with a dining table and a relaxation zone with a sofa and television. The room is distinguished by a wall with scraped paint, which, in harmony with the lighting made from colored textile cable, completes the contemporary character of the apartment.
The bedroom, which has a small balcony, remained in its original place. After revealing and waxing the original floorboards, this room also gained in comfort.
The architects evaluated as many original elements of the apartment as possible, and their interventions are non-invasive. An example is the color connection between the kitchen and the terrazzo, or the simple furnishing of the living spaces.
