The new building of the basic art school in Rajhrad is located on the site of the original structure (a terraced family house), which served as a music school. However, the original building was inadequate in terms of capacity and technical aspects, so the school's management decided to consider reconstruction. Due to the technical condition of the building, however, the house had to be demolished, allowing a new school to be constructed in its place.
The project addressed all levels of documentation, i.e., from architectural studies, through documentation for building permits and execution documentation, to cooperation during implementation in the form of author supervision.
The new building has a U-shaped floor plan. It consists of a street-facing building with a gable roof, a courtyard building with a flat roof, and a single-story connector that links the two main volumes and creates a courtyard between them. The art school offers programs in music, visual arts, and dance.
The building is unified in materials with a light facade and stone elements. The facade features cladding made of travertine. The window sills, lintels, and headpieces are faced with black granite. The gable roof is covered with smooth concrete tiles in terracotta color. The flat roof of the connecting piece is green. The openings are filled with aluminum in beige color, with the opening parts in anthracite color. The floor of the courtyard area, including the fencing to the neighbor, is made of raw bricks. The most prominent materials in the interior are cement screed on the floors, white plaster, and wooden coverings in veneered oak finish.
