Municipal House in Lukoveček

Municipal House in Lukoveček
The building of the elementary (formerly general) school in the village of Lukoveček was of the same type that had been found throughout the Czech and Moravian countryside since the Austro-Hungarian era.
The ground-floor structure featured one classroom in one half of the layout and a teacher's apartment in the other half. The attic was used only for storage, as was a small cellar. In this form, the school was used until the 1970s. By then, the windows had been replaced and the façade renovations had been made. The windows changed in dimensions and proportions, and the original decoration disappeared from the façade. Even behind the new plaster, however, coal stoves were used for heating until the end of the school's operation thirty years ago. Without any further changes, the building was occasionally used for the needs of gardeners.
The representatives of the municipality decided to repair the building and repurpose it as a community hall and clubroom. After the local pub was relocated, there was no larger gathering space left in the village. The municipality decided to carry out the reconstruction using saved funds, without any subsidies.
The main task of the reconstruction and extension was to provide sanitary facilities and create a sufficiently large hall. Everything else was done in the simplest possible way; the attic and cellar were left unused. The structures were treated with the cheapest available means and methods, and the roof remained original, including the aluminum sheeting. Where it was possible to use concrete without surface treatment, it was left unplastered. Heating is ensured by electric radiators, and additional heating is provided by a pair of wood-burning stoves.
Only by changing the window openings, their formats, and fittings did we attempt to restore the building's long-lost "communal" appearance using new methods.
