The postmodern building of the library and fire station, with a footbridge and a chimney/tower for drying fire hoses, represents a dominant feature of the lower part of Bystřice Square. According to the original plan from the early 1990s, the object was to be supplemented with a second wing – a town hall building facing the square. However, the completion of this project was never pursued.
During a recent reconstruction of the square, an amphitheater was built in front of the library, and a temporary mounted stage was attached to the building. Its use and placement in this space have proven successful over the years, although the temporary structure has gradually aged morally and technically. The investor's brief included a requirement for a design and solution for a new stage, as well as finding suitable conditions and ways to integrate it more closely and broadly into the context of the square and public life.
The addition of the stay steps and stage, in relation to the existing amphitheater, newly defines and adds social significance to the space in front of the city library. At the end of the bustling square, against the backdrop of the city library building, there is a new, calm place. People will sit here, meet, chat, or relax with a book in hand. Every city has its celebrations, anniversaries, and organizes seasonal outdoor events, concerts, summer cinemas, and theater performances, which will find their audience here.
And it will be bustling here even before the elections. Responsible city officials will reassure the citizens from here about their benevolent visions.
