Student Housing in the Center of Hradec Králové

The building is located at the intersection of the inner city ring road and the significant city street Gočárova. The building designated for student accommodation newly completes the street front. The massing and façade structure are based on the context of the surroundings and connect to traditional forms of the famous interwar and early post-war period. The scale of the building and the basic proportions of the façade do not resist historicizing tendencies, but the organization of window sections and the detail of execution are already contemporary and clearly represent the time of its creation.

The exterior color scheme of the house features a range of white shades. The plaster is grainy and manually horizontally brushed. The formats of smaller windows are complemented by plastic reliefs that subtly enhance the rhythm of the façade with gentle shadows. The southern façade, oriented towards the gardens of the adjacent villa development, is equipped with sliding shutters. The frames and sashes of the windows are aluminum in the tone of the light façade. A colorful accent is the pink staircase, which is reflected in the ground level glass and the windows of the individual floors, contrasting the otherwise "monotonous" façade.

The heart of the house is an atrium that passes through the building over five residential floors and is illuminated by a skylight. The central motif of the atrium is a mural with a street theme, abstracted and loosely inspired by Gočárova street and cubism. On the top floor, there is a shared roof terrace with a view of the city.

The ceilings in the building are made of exposed concrete. Their surface retains all traces capturing the construction process. Here we find imprints of formwork, colorful traces of rust, impressions of wires, nails, reinforcements, fallen leaves, as well as handwritten notes from the workers.

The interiors are simple and functional. The kitchen units are made of stainless steel, without cabinets, only with shelves. The basic color scheme of the rooms, combining exposed concrete, white, and black, is accented with colorful accessories in red, yellow, or blue.
