The basic volume of the building is defined by the preserved load-bearing skeleton of two structures that originally stood at this location. To achieve a dematerialized composition, a transparent outer shell is used in the above-ground floors.
The façade of part -1. floor, which protrudes above the ground, forms a compact base with a rough texture of the galvanized perforated metal cladding.
In the context of the 1st floor, the outer shell is made of glazing, so that the deep layout of the banking halls is as naturally illuminated as possible and that employees and clients have visual contact with the outdoor environment.
In the context of the cantilevered 2nd floor (from the underside of the 1st floor to the upper edge of the parapet), a cantilevered wavy glazed façade is used, behind which the inner shell, following the shape of the original structure, is visible in the second plan. This façade again allows maximum access to natural light. The outer shell is of uniform height around the entire building, thus visually unifying both differently tall original skeletons into one whole. As a response to the predominantly exact cubic shaping of the masses of surrounding buildings, a contrasting undulating footprint of the mentioned outer shell is chosen. The undulation also connects the variously wide 2nd floors of both original skeletons more smoothly.
The unobtrusive new 3rd floor addition is again recessed in footprint, and its façade consists of a combination of glazing and a lightweight outer shell with simple divisions. The thin overhanging canopy is emphasized.
Operational cost savings will be contributed by the shading of the 1st floor by the cantilevered 2nd floor and the use of insulating triple glazing with a low solar factor, which will prevent summer overheating of the spaces behind the southern glazing.
The building is characterized by the use of glass elements with a minimum of visible frames – an outer shell with sealed vertical joints and glass braces, internal full glass partitions, glass panel railings, anchored invisibly below the floor.
