The architecturally striking building of the OKO cinema in Šumperk, built in 1928, has undergone numerous modifications and reconstructions over the years, resulting in a state that we had the opportunity to remedy in 2017. The cleaning and restoration of the elegant functionalist curves that characterize the interior spaces was our main task, along with the effort to create a representative entrance space for the many visitors that the Šumperk cinema can boast of.
The interior design draws from the original elegant lines of the entrance foyer, which were complemented with wood and glass in the original design. In our proposal, we aimed to restore this state, with the ticket office, made of natural oak wood, dominating the entrance area, providing a counterbalance to the buffet located behind the glass wall on the opposite side of the entrance space. The entrance foyer is further enhanced, apart from the lighting elements shaped like eye pupils, by a prominent coat panel, which clearly sets the elegant tone of the entire space with its symmetry, graceful curve, and natural oak material. The combination of anthracite paint, dark carpeting, and a light ceiling with lighting fixtures adds a sense of modernity and cleanliness to the space.
To fine-tune the interior, posters of legendary Czech and world films from the golden fund of cinematography were carefully selected and, along with numerous film quotes, adorned the walls of the interior.
