The interior of the restaurant and pub in the Holešovice
Vnitroblock, which with its atmosphere somewhat embodies the "little Berlin" vibe, somewhat predestines the industrial style of the design itself. The aim was also to bring a touch of elegance and playfulness to the space, creating an environment where guests would feel comfortable and which would also be timeless.
We divided the restaurant into two conceptual parts.
The main part is a spacious open pub, dominated by a bar clad in aluminum panels evoking beer foam. The bar is complemented by a menu board, which is part of a lighting ramp. Next to the bar, a cube clad in scorched wood emerges, which houses part of the kitchen open to customers. They can thus watch the final preparation of the food before it is served.
We wanted the pub to offer several seating styles. Bar seating for a quick beer "on the go," with its steel structure based on the designs of classic steel beds previously used in reform schools, is complemented by half-high seating along the wall in the so-called "trucovna," which allows for solitary time in a peaceful environment. At the head of the spacious pub, under a large skylight, stands a massive wooden table with a wood bench stained black, which dominates the space and can accommodate either a large group of people or several smaller groups. Above this table, on the white wall, a conceptual gallery has emerged, where works by local artists can be displayed.
The walls of the main space are made of rough bricks painted white. The ceiling is left in its original concrete finish, cleaned only of dirt. Throughout the space, the exposed electrical and HVAC systems emphasize the industrial character of the interior.
From the pub, one can enter the lounge through a stainless steel portal, which contrasts the bright pub with a black color scheme. This part of the restaurant feels calmer and offers the chance to enjoy an evening in a smaller group, isolated from the hustle of the main space. Opposite the entrance to the lounge, there is an atypical stainless steel table with a top made of the same material that evokes the beer foam as the bar. In the dark space, this table stands out like a piece of jewelry and allows for comfortable seating for a larger group of guests. To bring more natural light into this area, we broke through the front wall of the black cube and replaced it with glass set into steel angled frames. The dominant element of the lounge, in addition to the stainless steel table, is a black wall covered with beer bottles, creating a subtle wavy effect.
The overall monochromatic base of the interior is complemented by striking yellow graphics, which also serve as a navigational system, intuitively guiding guests throughout the space. Lines on the concrete floor lead visitors exactly where they need to go – whether to the bar, to the restrooms, or perhaps to the trucovna.
The path to the restrooms leads through a yellow tunnel with a similarly colored steel staircase.
We designed the restrooms in a clean dark finish, and because we believe every restroom should have something extra, we designed a subtle glimpse between the ladies' and gents' sections. Positioned under a mirror along the entire length of the sink wall, you won't know until the last moment whether it's an illusion or reality.
