The context of this project is one of the themes of architectural design - the reduction of external and internal processes that are necessary but must not be constraining in their consequences.
From the architect's approach, it is not about the formal eloquence of architecture. It is about an unwritten solidarity with the essence of the use of materials and mass in space. More expressive and rougher materials are naturally included, whose concentration leads to a broader perception of forms and their meanings. In order for the meanings to be properly perceived, they must have a scale, which in the final phase becomes the focal point of the realized solution.
Within this project, it is about the hierarchy of inserted elements, which do not lack this scale, becoming multifunctional masses and thus connecting to the given architectural space. This approach to design creates principles that are based on minimizing decor, on the fusion of material variants and mass characterized by their individual expressive manifestation. The "decor" is fulfilled by the very essence of the materials, which are given by their own structure, color, and detail. Another important stimulus in reconstructions is working with randomness and the process of incorporating the resulting relationships into the realization.
In the case of the project in Valentinská, an understanding of these relationships was to occur. From the perspective of the assignment, there must not be a certain stiffness that constrains, it allows for manipulation, and in its consequences must not make the architect's approach to the work itself merely a mechanical reproduction. Even though the architect follows an artificially inserted purpose and assigned functions, the general and specific principles in relation to the work itself must be respected by the environment.
The universal and emotional measure is how the end user feels in the space. It is an approach and aesthetic concept that creates a character of certain ambiguity, variability over time and use. The overall atmosphere of the design was naturally influenced by the local context, its cultural-artistic and social background.
The space operates under the name Mistral Café.
