The functional and spatial arrangement of the park respects the division of the area by the original mature greenery. The backbone axis formed by the mature linden trees – the main promenade (the original entrance to the swimming area) – begins with the statue of Alois Jirásek (the patron and original owner of the park), which will symbolically welcome all visitors. The tree-lined avenue ends with a plateau containing a spring (the heart of the park). Mineral water from the newly reconstructed spring NHr-1a (Regnerka) and the restored spring Hronovka will flow into the spring.
The park is divided along the axis of the avenue into a southern – larger, sunny, recreational area, and a northern – smaller, peaceful, representative area.
The concept of the park reconstruction is based on the idea of restoring its function as a place for relaxation and leisure activities for the city's citizens (picnics, games, relaxation on the grass, swimming...). The chosen design takes into account the visual and spatial connection of the park with the river, the clearing of debris from dilapidated structures, and the new routing of park pathways that better suit their users. The basic structure of the park consists of walking paths – a circular promenade intersected by the main thoroughfares dividing the park into individual pedestrian grassy sectors with different functional uses (recreation, culture, representation, activities). The main route through the park connects the city center with Zbečník and Velký Dřevíč. It runs alongside the avenue of linden trees and directly connects to the footbridge over the Metuje River. Resting places with benches will be placed along the paths.
We are also creating a new entrance to the park from Jiráskova Street directly opposite the stairs to the bell tower of the Church of All Saints. This entrance will alleviate the cramped area on the sidewalk in front of Alois Jirásek's birthplace when a larger group of tourists visits the park.
In addition to structural interventions in the park's layout, the greenery will also be renewed. The current park greenery, consisting solely of grass and mature trees, will be supplemented with an additional layer of flowering shrubs and mixed perennial plant beds. Mature trees will be complemented with new ones with a vision for the long-term growth of the woody plants, so that they will eventually replace the current mature trees. The plant material will be chosen according to the local species representation of the surrounding landscape.
