Assignment: The client acquired a minimal apartment on the top floor of a panel apartment building featuring a spacious terrace and a magnificent view of the whole of Prague. The catastrophic state of the property required a complete reconstruction.
The assignment was quite flexible; the apartment was primarily intended for rent, with the potential for future use as a refuge for one of the descendants. The main requirements were functionality and the aesthetic quality of the designed space. The investor's openness and trust were very important for our work, which were reflected in a coherent result that offers, on a relatively small area, all the necessary attributes of modern living in full readiness.
Concept / spatial arrangement: We designed a simple, almost diagrammatic division into individual functional zones. The kitchen, bathroom, and laundry are logically attached to the service core. Perpendicular to the kitchen, three sections are arranged: the main living area, the study, and the bedroom. These functions are clearly defined by partition panels that allow for a combination of living situations. The lighting also supports the spatial division, offering various modes and degrees of intimacy.
We supported the natural extension of the living space to the terrace. The outdoor and indoor living, i.e., movement back and forth, is made pleasant by two wide sliding wings of the new glass wall and a slanted screen roller blind that spans the entire width of the apartment on the outer side of the terrace. Opening the apartment to the terrace required a specific solution for the radiator baseboard, which is elevated above the floor. Rubber cladding and a heating grille in the same shade contribute to the lightness of this element and the cohesion of the entire interior.
All the apartment furnishings are custom-made and maximally integrated. In the hallway, there is a spacious wardrobe with a shoe cabinet and a cleaning cupboard with a built-in washing machine, dryer, and laundry basket, to which there is a chute from the bathroom adjoining the service core from the other side. For absolute comfort, the apartment is, at the request of the client, equipped with acoustic partitions and air conditioning integrated into the upper cabinets of the kitchen unit.
