Rodinný dom Grot

Rodinný dom Grot
Architect: Atrium Architekti
Address: Grot, Košice, Slovakia
Project:2018
Completion:2023

The residential area of Grot on the western outskirts of Košice is predominantly made up of row houses that have emerged here over the past quarter of a century. This sought-after residential area is within reach of the center of the Eastern Slovak metropolis and is simultaneously surrounded by greenery. Among the flood of catalog designs, one can find quality solutions, including a project by the local studio Atrium Architekti, which built Villa P here twelve years ago.
The two-story family house in Grot responds in its shape to the immediate surroundings. It consists of two parts: the lower part is clad in black aluminum panels, while the upper mass is vertically covered with wooden slats. The ceiling structure is topped with an extensive green roof. Toward the street, the building closes off. In contrast, the facade completely opens up to the garden, where large-scale glazing offers views to the southwest into the open landscape.
The house designed for a family of five features a total of four bedrooms: two in the northern part of the ground floor and two more in the rooftop extension. The architects aimed for the greatest possible reduction in both formal and material terms, which ultimately creates a contrast to the surrounding uneven and colorful development. The muted color scheme and selection of materials are also reflected in the interior, where black, white, and gray surfaces are complemented by wooden elements that add a warm atmosphere to the space.
