Meadow
At the beginning, there was a meadow named "EU-Ziel-1-Wiese". Among the first to build on this meadow was Trevision, an internationally recognized specialist in large-format printing. Our task was clear: to create a hall for printing machines and the necessary space for print correction, storage, a small locksmith workshop, and an office block with plenty of computers and two bosses.
Shearing (sliding) force
Lateral force primarily means asking ourselves questions in hindsight. The tuning of the entire company lies in relaxed dealings, open communication, and its engagement in social areas. We also decided to free ourselves from their conceptual spatial program "office central and workers' hall" and generously connect the two.
Horizontal instead of Vertical
This democratizing process is reflected in the cross-section of the 56-meter-long hall. The operation of the offices and the printing plant is visually divided into two planes. On a fireproof concrete base, in which the storage rooms are located, lie the offices, or rather the office area. Transparency is a general theme in this large-volume office. Each individual in these strictly arranged spaces has the opportunity for further development. Only this tension between orderliness and diversity will depict a consistent yet steadily stable overall image of the company.
Synergy 1
Back to the relationship between the offices and the printing plant. Both planes have a dual significance: on one hand, they are economic - the heights of the spaces are optimized, and the hall structure is maximally "filled" throughout its volume. On the other hand, it offers an "overview" of the printing floor from the offices, creating new efficiency in production - people from the image preparation see their results flowing from the printing machines, and during sales and service, they have the ideal chance to have an "overview" of things together with customers.
Insights, Views, and Perspectives
The glazing of the hall corresponds to the overall concept, which lends the space transverse dynamics. The printers are offered a view into the greenery, which gives no hint of the presence of the highway (which runs on an embankment above the greenery) and a view to the north; while people working with computers filter the view to the south, which is not yet built-up but will need such filtering in the future.
Duration
One more reason for such a "cross-section solution" needs to be mentioned: the simple spatial concept allows for an optimal 25-meter-long new extension, and also better adaptation and sale of the building in the event of a move - flexibility in design, which should consider social, economic, and ecological sustainability of the industrial building.
Games 1
In its communication with the outside, the building appears simple and unequivocal. The front walls are blind. While the eastern wall is prepared for its dismantling and potential expansion of operations, the western side shows our own intervention. The slant signals something special, the entrance, which in the shape of a reinforced concrete monolithic staircase leads to the first floor. Once a visitor arrives here, they are offered a view of a generous, undivided communal corporate space, before which runs a 40-meter-long balcony with plants and garden furniture (for chatting, smoking, etc.). This space is also covered with a mesh printed with the text "UNMISSABLE" extending the full height of the floor. This inscription begins the game right from the arrival, which continues inside.
Games 2
The game may have already started on the highway. Its route runs along an elevated embankment, passing a 56-meter-long image, and immediately the question arises: what could this be? The strength of the question will depend on which artist has addressed this illuminated frame within the "museum in progress" project. In the architectural form of Trevision, it has succeeded in drawing attention to itself and, moreover - as we hope - fulfilling its function well.
Synergy 2
The economy-considerate construction was developed in close collaboration with the structural engineer. Since each company requires different span lengths for its operations, the length of large-span beams was already determined during the first discussions of the contract. Even in the field of technical infrastructure, synergetic effects are utilized. For example, the internal terraces are positioned so they can also serve employees or clients as a bridge to monitor the printed images below.
