From the jury's final evaluation:
The jury stated that the winning proposal best met the assignment and fulfilled all evaluation criteria set for the second round of the competition. The jury particularly appreciated the fact that the author successfully dealt with the challenging historical context of the square and created spatial, material objects of fountains and symbolic sculptures that also serve as water spouts. Their lapidary volumes combine sculptural and architectural approaches and creatively link the present with tradition. This connection is evident from the reference to abstracted symbols of the city emblem – the heraldic figures of the camel, greyhound, and angel, the revival of the tradition of monumental casts produced at Škoda Works, or the repetition of the black and gold color scheme applied to the Marian plague pillar. The author chose a thoughtful shape and material solution that is elegant and noble. The gilding underscores the uniqueness of the works, the quality of their surface, and inventively plays with the variability of light and optical qualities.
The impressiveness of the works does not lose its attractiveness even at night or in winter when the fountains are out of operation and function as monumental dominants at the corners of the square. It is also significant that the proposed objects communicate with each other and remain in a subdominant position relative to the Gothic cathedral.
The jury appreciates that the author of the winning proposal managed to cope with the already established appearance of the paving and sensitively integrated his intention into the considered porphyry surface.
The jury states that the winning proposal is also the most economically feasible, easily realizable, and operationally undemanding, which was confirmed unanimously by the expertise of the invited experts from the jury. The proposal does not claim complex and expensive technological service equipment.
The professional presentation of the proposal convinced the jury of the feasibility of its further development towards realization.
The jury is convinced that the winning proposal will enrich the Plzeň square with a contemporary work that is of high quality, distinctive, and unique in its own way, and that it will serve as a good calling card for the city as well as a step towards the rehabilitation and revitalization of this eminent public space.
