The School of Architecture of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Prof. Ing. arch. Miroslav Šik ETHZ arch. B.S.A SIA, Dr. h. c. kindly invites you to the book presentation. Acad. arch. Jaroslav Kosek was among the last students of Professor Josef Gočár. After gaining practical experience on construction sites and graduating from the Higher Industrial School of Construction in Hradec Králové, he collaborated on projects for family houses with builder Ladislav Caňkář and won a competition for Hálkovo Theatre in Nymburk. Based on this project, he was admitted to the master's school of Professor Gočár, which he completed at AVU between 1934 and 1937. For his diploma project of the concert hall on Střelecký Island, he was awarded the Kotěra Prize, an honorary year at AVU. During his studies, he successfully participated in the Baťa Housing Competition in Zlín in 1935 and in urban planning competitions for a group of residential houses in Podbrezová and finally for the development of the center and residential houses in Slatinské Doly in Subcarpathian Rus, parts of which were realized. He then worked as an independent architect in Prague until the dissolution of private studios after February 1948. At the recommendation of Josef Chochol, he worked as a group leader in the private atelier of national artist Jiří Kroha. From there, he transitioned to heavy industry design, where he remained until his retirement in 1976. The work of Jaroslav Kosek was represented at the exhibition of Czechoslovak modern architecture at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London in September 1947, conceived by Jaromír Krejcar. Later, however, it was not published until the beginning of 1989, when it appeared in the magazines Umění a řemesla and Československý architekt. In 1998, Jaroslav Kosek was awarded the title of Personality of Czech Architecture by the Association of Architects. The book prepared by Jaroslav Kosek Jr. and Vladimír Šlapeta documents the life and professional fates of this exceptional architect and, among other things, presents all three annual student projects of the author created in the master's school of Professor Josef Gočár. During the meeting, architect Jaroslav Kosek's work will be presented by Vladimír Šlapeta, with contributions from architect Jaroslav Kosek Jr. The book presentation, which will be attended by the authors' team, will take place in the Pavilion of Architecture of AVU, U Akademie 172/2, Prague 7-Bubeneč. On Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 5:30 PM.
