What must a city endure to continue living? Come to the screening of the documentary The City as a Laboratory of Change (30 min) and join the debate about the future of Prague 8 - a place where the historical city clashes with the pressure from developers. The documentary The City as a Laboratory of Change was created as part of the eponymous program Strategy AV21 of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The film draws viewers into the city as a living organism, where infrastructure, social ties, and the everyday struggle for the character of the district pulsate. Since their inception, cities have functioned as autonomous organisms. They constantly evolve, adapt, and search for balance. But what happens when there is an unexpected transformation - such as industrialization, a natural disaster, or radical interventions in urbanism? And what changes do they face today? The film seeks answers through the examples of the cities of Telč, Most, Zlín, and Prague. The film was selected for the competition of the best Czech and Slovak documentaries at the Academia Film Olomouc 2025 festival.
