For the extension of the Silesian Ostrava town hall, project documentation is already being prepared

Ostrava – The project for the extension of the town hall in Slezská Ostrava is moving into the next phase. The city district has signed a contract for the development of project documentation with the Prague architectural firm A8000, whose design won the architectural competition. This was announced to journalists today by the town hall spokesperson Sandra Štrejlová.

The new extension aims to resolve the long-standing unsatisfactory situation where the city district office operates in two separate buildings. While the historic town hall is an architectural monument, the building on Gagarin Square, created by merging three former apartment buildings, does not meet current requirements.

"We want to create a modern, functional, and dignified environment not only for the office employees but primarily for citizens who will have all services available under one roof. In the new building, we will achieve significant energy savings, and we will be able to build new apartments on Yuri Gagarin Square, which are currently lacking in the area," said Mayor Richard Vereš (ANO).

The district announced the architectural competition last spring. It attracted 30 architectural teams, of which six submitted final competition proposals. The winning proposal impressed the jury with the quality of architectural design and the sensitive integration of the new building with the historic town hall.

"The council has now approved the conclusion of a contract for the development of all levels of project documentation and related activities. After the completion of the project preparation, obtaining the necessary permits and selecting the contractor for the construction will follow. If the preparation continues as expected, the city district plans to start construction work in 2028, with completion two years later. At the same time, the district is preparing a project to convert the current office building on Yuri Gagarin Square back into apartments," the spokesperson added. The town hall previously stated that the construction, estimated to cost around 280 million crowns, is planned to be financed with the help of a loan.
