From 1984 to 2006, he founded and led the studio Ábalos&Herreros. In 2006, he co-founded the studio Ábalos+Sentkiewicz with Renata Sentkiewicz. He has served as a visiting professor at Columbia University (New York), Architectural Association (London), EPFL (Lausanne), Princeton University (New Jersey), and Cornell University (Ithaca). Since 2009, he has been a professor at Harvard University.
