Biography
Dipl.-Ing. Dr. techn. Karl Schwanzer was born in Vienna on May 21, 1918. After military service, he completed his studies at the Technical University in 1942. After the war, he worked as the head of "Allbau" Bauwerkstätten GmbH Bavaria and simultaneously worked as an assistant to Oswald Haerdtla at the University of Applied Arts. After many commissions both at home and abroad, he gained a prominent position thanks to the Austrian pavilion at the 1958 World Expo in Brussels. Among other projects from his studio is the Old Vienna café and the first Viennese car elevator at Neuen Markt.
