Brno – The city of Brno is planning to modify the area in front of the House of Art and in Koliště Park for approximately 79 million. The winning design by the M2AU studio was selected by an expert jury in a landscape-architectural competition. It is not yet clear when the work will take place. The public will be able to view the future form of the site and other proposals from the competition in March at an exhibition in the House of Lords from Kunštát.
City officials will now begin discussions with the management of the House of Art in Brno regarding the transformation. The winning studio proposes the area in front of the House of Art as a dignified entrance to the cultural institution. On the other side, a new staircase will be added to complete the missing connection between the park, the house, and the forecourt. According to the proposal, the park should resemble a green room in the historical center of the city, providing both shade and sunlight, and changing throughout the year. The goal is to preserve as many trees as possible as well as new planting.
The central part of the park will feature a sunlit area planted with grass, providing a space for recreation. "The House of Art is a unique cultural building that is part of the park and the representative Malinovského Square stemming from the heart of the city. The winning design builds on these foundations while also connecting to the historically and spatially significant belt of urban parks along Brno’s ring road," stated Mayor Markéta Vaňková.
