Špindlerův Mlýn – Three teams have advanced to the finals of the international architectural-urban planning competition for a new center in Špindlerův Mlýn: Czech studios ADR, OV Architekti, and the Slovak studio Sadovsky & Architects. Their designs will be presented to the public on Saturday, June 6, in the city center. This was reported by representatives of the development company Penta Real Estate.
Previously, there were concerns that the developer's plans would not be favorable for local residents. Some locals fear the creation of empty investment apartments that will not be permanently inhabited. The construction costs are not yet known.
The three-round competition is held according to the regulations of the Czech Chamber of Architects. The aim of the competition, announced by Penta Real Estate in cooperation with the town of Špindlerův Mlýn, is to find a new urban and architectural solution for the city center on the left bank of the Elbe River.
"The jury, in collaboration with representatives of the city and the investor, formulated recommendations for further development of the proposals. We are now curious to see how the three advancing teams will finalise their designs," said competition chair Igor Marko.
The deadline for submitting proposals in the third phase of the competition is May 22. After that, the proposals will be presented to the public, allowing people to discuss them on-site with the architects and submit their comments and suggestions. The expert jury will receive these before their evaluation, which will be part of the final third competition workshop on June 19.
"The second competition workshop confirmed the high quality and diversity of the proposals and allowed us to select the final trio. We will exhibit their refined designs directly in the city center, where we will discuss them with the authors, the expert jury, and representatives of the city in public," said David Musil, executive director of Penta Real Estate.
According to him, the goal is to create a vibrant, modern, and community space in the center of the mountain resort, which has a brownfield at its core, with housing, services, and quality public space that will operate year-round. "And not just for tourists, but primarily for the locals," added Musil.
Mayor of Špindlerův Mlýn Martin Jandura (Špindlerův Mlýn – a city with a vision) welcomes the transparency of the competition process and notes that most of his colleagues from the council participated in the presentation.
"I would especially like to invite all Špindleráci and visitors of Špindlerův Mlýn to the first Saturday of June. They will be able to view the individual proposals during the afternoon, chat with their authors, and leave their comments for the jury," said Jandura.
