Kindergarten Červený vrch in Vokovice - competition results

The subject of the competition was to delineate a fenced area of the kindergarten with an area of approximately 3000 m², to design a 4-class kindergarten including the associated garden, and to address the connections to the defined parts of the Červený vrch primary school's campus. The estimated investment value was 50 million CZK excluding VAT. A part of the competition's subject included an ideational proposal for modifications to the surrounding defined parts of the Červený vrch primary school's site.

Good connection to the adjacent kindergarten and other broader relations. Well-defined size of the area. Addressed parking. b) Simple and compact shape. Simple and variable construction system. c) The energy concept is very suitable. Correct building orientation, optimized glazing, functional shading system. Easily resolvable details.

Jury evaluation: a) The scale and mass of the building are appropriate. Creating sufficient space in front of the northern facade with a solution for calm traffic. Good contact with the adjacent kindergarten. The size of the area needs to be reduced. b) Compact pavilion shape solution. Functional outdoor terrace. Schematic typified classrooms with unnecessarily large support areas for each classroom, operationally complex, large number of communications - 5 staircases and 3 elevators. Architectural expression is schematic. c) The energy concept is very suitable. Optimized design of size and orientation of windows. Suitable and variable compositions of structures, simple details. Accessible green roof.

Jury evaluation: a) Suitable location on the site, allowing contact of classrooms with the garden. Unusual division of the building responds to the unusual shape of the site. Good contact with the adjacent kindergarten. Large volume of excavated soil. Well-defined size of the area. Interesting barrier-free connection of the lower level access routes to the entrance with connection to both streets. b) Quality architecture, shape is compact. Nice layout of classrooms, which are oriented to well-sized gardens. Class interiors are pleasant and imaginative thanks to the sleeping gallery. c) Energy-efficient concept. Simple conventional solution. Non-functional shading system. Problematic skylights, need for cooling.
