Ostrava - The city of Ostrava has announced another architectural competition for the transformation of public space, seeking a new shape for Msgre Šrámek Square. Interested parties can submit their designs to the open anonymous competition by June 1, Mayor Tomáš Macura (ANO) told reporters today. This is the third architectural competition that the city has announced this year. Architects are also proposing the transformation of the former slaughterhouse or have already designed a possible future shape of Artistic Street near the House of Art.
Participants in the competition are to propose an architectural-urban solution for the space in front of the entrance to the Cathedral of the Divine Savior. The proposal will also include the authors' vision of enhancing the surroundings of the cathedral up to the city block lining Zámecká Street.
"Both from our opinion and from the public's perspective, it is clear that this is one of the dominant public spaces in the historic center of the city, and we believe it deserves appropriate care," stated the mayor.
The space is located near the Jiří Myron Theater, which is set for renovation later this year. The renovation will include, for example, a café with an entrance to the square. The proposals should also include the authors' ideas for addressing parking in the area, as well as a rough estimate of the financial demands of the proposed solution.
"Architects have the opportunity in Ostrava to propose a new face for another significant part of the city center. And this year we will offer them even more opportunities. With great anticipation, I will personally sit among the judges in the second week of June to select the winning proposal," said Macura. The jury will also include architects in addition to city representatives.
The competition conditions are also published on the city's website under the icon for architectural competitions.
