The city of Jyväskylä is intrinsically linked to the name of the most famous Scandinavian architect. Alvar Aalto grew up in this city of one hundred thousand in the heart of Finland, built his first houses here, developed the local administrative, educational, sporting, and cultural center, and there is also a museum dedicated to his work. The Aalto Foundation also organizes educational programs and symposia here. For all these activities, the capacities of the original Aalto design are no longer sufficient, which is why an international competition was announced on Monday, June 29, 2015, for the expansion of the museum on the site between the Alvar Aalto Foundation and the Central Finland Museum. The aim is to find the ideal solution to connect these two institutions, improve the efficiency of operations, and make the museums more attractive to the wider public. The registration deadline is October 16, 2015, and the submission date for the museum expansion projects is October 30, 2015. The winner will be announced on February 2, 2016, on Aalto's 118th birthday.
