The city of Stockholm has announced a two-round international architectural competition for the expansion of the library designed by architect Gunnar Asplund 75 years ago.
The existing building is no longer sufficient in capacity (after the expansion, it is expected to utilize 24,000 m2 instead of the current 14,000 m2). The deadline for the first round of the competition is October 27, 2006. A maximum of 5 proposals will be selected for the second round, which will probably be announced in May next year. A total amount of 2.2 million SEK (6.7 million CZK) is allocated for prizes and awards. Registration for the competition is free. The estimated investment for the library expansion is 625-795 million SEK (approximately 2-2.5 billion CZK).
