In Copenhagen, prizes were awarded yesterday to the winners of the international competition for the development of the former Carlsberg brewery site.
The aim of the competition was to find a suitable development plan for the vast area from which the Carlsberg brewery will relocate next year. The location is exceptionally valuable due to its proximity to the center of Copenhagen.
The jury selected the winners from a total of 221 submitted proposals, which during the evaluation created a series of posters 700 m long. All proposals were published before the announcement of the results on the competition's website and at an exhibition that was attended by over 5,000 visitors.
The overall quality of the submitted proposals was very high. The jury particularly appreciated proposals that focused more on life itself than on design, provided space for diverse social and cultural groups of residents, various activities that would allow the location to function throughout the day, and last but not least, managed to express the identity of the place while also being part of Copenhagen as a whole.
The first prize of 130,000 EUR was awarded to the proposal from the Danish studio Enthasis. The jury also gave the second prize and 50,000 EUR to five other proposals (from the Danish studio Henning Larsen Arkitekter, the Berlin-based ATELIER LOIDL Landscape Architect + EU Architects and Urban Planners, a-up from Hanover, a proposal by Spanish architects Alberto Álvarez Agea, Ana Zazo Moratalla, Manuel Álvarez-Monteserín La Hoz, Ana Penalba Estebanez, María Mallo Zurdo, and a proposal from the Miralles Tagliabue EMBT Arquitectes office, which was one of the five directly invited by the organizers to participate in the competition). Finally, five other proposals were awarded 5,000 EUR each.
Among the unawarded proposals, there were four from the Czech Republic (from the studio Adam Rujbr Architects, Andrej Fencl, Jakub Kynčl, and P6 Projekt Architects).

All awarded and unawarded proposals, many of which are very interesting, and a detailed report from the evaluation committee can be found on the competition's website>
