The company Xella CZ announces another year of the Ytong high school competition, which is intended for students in the 3rd and 4th years of secondary industrial schools focused on construction. The subject of the competition is to develop a student project for a family or apartment building using the Ytong system.
The goal of the competition is to bring the Ytong material to a broader awareness among students and to familiarize them with its properties and correct use. Future builders and designers have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical design, for which they will be appropriately rewarded in case of success. “Through the competition, we aim to develop competitiveness and creativity among young students, which often determines their success in professional life. During the event, students also have a unique opportunity to meet with professionals from the field and experience the charm and tension of a competitive environment,” comments the Ytong high school competition PaedDr. Hana Šimánová, project manager of student competitions at Xella CZ.
Several personalities from the field of architecture and construction assess the works each year.
“We would like to establish long-term cooperation with construction schools. In addition to holding the competition itself, we offer schools a rich accompanying program throughout the year, which they can tailor precisely to their curriculum and objectives,” continues Šimánová. Individual schools are offered a range of interesting accompanying events by the Ytong manufacturer that can deepen students' interest and knowledge about the industry. Technical advisors from the company can introduce students to the Ytong construction system through engaging lectures and also offer individual consultations and expert guidance for their annual projects. Secondary schools can participate in a professional excursion to the production plant, where students are thoroughly acquainted with the technology of aerated concrete production Ytong. Partner schools receive various educational materials from the manufacturer free of charge, ranging from technical brochures to material samples. Demonstration events organized by the company can also be a very effective educational tool for students and professors. “We are aware that the lack of practical skills among high school graduates largely stems from deficiencies in funding in the Czech education system. Through long-term cooperation and holding the high school competition, we want to contribute to improving the quality of teaching and education for our future generation,” concludes Hana Šimánová on behalf of Xella CZ.
The Ytong high school competition will take place in 2010 in two rounds – regional and national. The three best student projects from four national regions will always advance to the national round. The deadline for submitting competition projects at individual schools will be in the 15th week of 2010. Details about the competition, competition rules, and the registration form can be found by interested parties on the company’s website.
YTONG is primarily used for the construction of apartment and family houses due to its unique thermal insulation properties, ensuring year-round thermal and moisture comfort. The eco-friendly and energy-efficient production, combined with the minimal energy consumption of buildings, ranks YTONG aerated concrete among the most environmentally friendly building materials available today. High precision, low weight, speed, and simple masonry technology also make it suitable for the reconstruction of all types of buildings. White YTONG aerated concrete is produced exclusively from high-quality natural raw materials, such as siliceous sand, lime, cement, and water. Therefore, it is ideal for buildings intended for long-term human occupancy, including spaces with increased hygiene requirements. The company Xella CZ emphasizes that the materials it produces are among modern building solutions and offer unique parameters in many respects. Whether it pertains to thermal, acoustic, or static properties or the hygiene and microclimatic parameters of buildings, Ytong, Silka, and Ytong Multipor materials are among the most interesting that the construction market can offer to investors. Knowledge and experience with Ytong aerated concrete should thus be essential in the professional competencies of future builders and architects.
