On Thursday, October 5th, the opening of the exhibition "Housing in the City" took place with the participation of the author Jakub Kynčl. This time, the novelty was lively jazz music, which accompanied the opening, performed by the group of Vlastík Šmída.

The exhibition project "Housing in the City" was born in the spring of 2006 in Brno, where its presentation at the local Architecture Gallery accompanied the market launch of the book of the same name by Jakub Kynčl. After its June presentation at the Jaroslav Frágner Gallery in Prague, the exhibition collection also made its way to Ostrava, where it is being presented from October 5th to November 30th, 2006, at the Center for New Architecture.
This marked another step in fulfilling the vision with which CNA was established: to bridge the distance of Ostrava from traditional academic centers such as Prague or Brno, and to help ensure that the people of Ostrava do not have to travel so much for quality exhibitions and lectures in Prague, but that exhibitions from Prague "travel" to us.
The exhibition maps the contemporary European architectural scene in the area of housing, presenting how contemporary European architects approach housing projects, how they respond to societal developments and its demands, and showcasing the possibilities and approaches to addressing the still relevant issue of housing. Based on these contexts, the author defines six categories of the most commonly used building types in residential construction today (house-city, house-villa, house-gallery, house-court, village in the city, and compact housing).
European examples of these solutions from renowned architectural studios are presented through interactively controllable projections, including rich photographic documentation as well as basic building floor plans and sections. Visitors to the exhibition can then "click" with their mouse on monitors placed in simple wooden booths, controlling the projection themselves and virtually flipping through the project. The theme is presented on residential units from the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Spain, Belgium, France, Greece, Finland, and the Czech Republic.
