Galerie VI cordially invites you to the opening of the exhibition Loos Knots (Loose Knots) by the studio LLRRLLRR.
The Estonian architectural studio of Laura Linsi and Roland Reemaa (LLRRLLRR) will present three projects inspired by traditional practices of adaptive reuse, from the ruggedness we encounter in the landscape of the Baltic, as well as benefiting from an active approach to commissioning and realization of projects.
The buildings we encounter along roads far from Tallinn or other urban centers seem somewhat secondary compared to the landscape – they are sparsely distributed, always adapted to their surroundings, and constructed to support what occurs more around them than within. They are firmly tied to their place, representing clusters of locally available materials obtained from the surrounding soil or through main trade routes. As witnesses of the material cultures of the place, they mock homogenization.
The deviation from what is considered standard in the architectural field is essential for LLRRLLRR. In their projects, they strive to challenge prevailing tastes, financing, established procedures for tenders and contracting, which have become too central themes in architectural creation.
The studio LLRRLLRR was founded by architects Laura Linsi and Roland Reemaa. Their projects are based on the principles of design and construction methods related to the specific location. They draw on knowledge of the environment and collaborate with local communities, material producers, artists, and institutions, with Laura and Roland often taking on a fruitful role as amateurs. They work on architectural projects, write, curate, and teach at the Estonian Academy of Arts and at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London.
The exhibition was created with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the City of Prague, the State Fund for Culture, and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.
