The Architecture Gallery in Brno (GAB) builds on the successful collaboration with the Architecture Cabinet in Ostrava and brings to Brno an overview of the architectural work of the renowned Slovenian studio OFIS ARHITEKTI in the form of large-format photographs and models. The exhibition will be opened by a long-time collaborator of the Architecture Cabinet in Slovakia and the United Kingdom and the main initiator of the exhibition Rastislav Udžan on February 11, 2013, in the premises of the Architecture Gallery Brno and will run until March 7, 2014. The gallery is open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The architectural studio OFIS ARHITEKTI was founded in 1996 by Rok Oman (1970) and Špela Videčnik (1971), who graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Ljubljana and the prestigious Architectural Association School of Architecture in London. As early as 1998, they won several architectural competitions, including the construction of a football stadium in Maribor and the City Museum in Ljubljana. Many of their projects have been nominated for the European Mies van der Rohe Award for Contemporary Architecture. In 2000, they were awarded the prestigious title of "Young Architect of the Year" in London, and in 2005, their Villa received an honorable mention at the Biennale in Miami. In 2009, they received the Silver Medal IOC/IAKS, and in 2006, they were awarded the European Grand Prix for Innovation Award. "Although the studio is located in Ljubljana, its architects work and communicate on an international level, participating in competitions and professional discussions around the world. For example, they won a competition for the reconstruction of part of the Venetian industrial suburb of Marghera and the construction of a residential complex in Graz, Austria. The opening of their French branch in 2007 was prompted by winning a competition for the construction of 180 housing units in Petit Ponts, Paris, marking their first large-scale housing project abroad. Shortly thereafter followed another major project - the construction of a football stadium in Borisov, Belarus, which was to be completed in 2012," says Gabriel Kurtis from the Architecture Gallery in Brno. Tadeáš Goryczka from the Architecture Cabinet in Ostrava adds: "The international team works in studios in Ljubljana, Paris, London, and Moscow. The beginnings of OFIS's activities date back to the 1990s, which were particularly exciting for the former Yugoslav republics. Slovenia underwent an intense search for its own economic and cultural identity, starting from scratch in many areas. In architecture, this meant that most larger architectural firms had to downsize or even went bankrupt, creating space for younger teams or individuals to participate in architectural competitions. During that time, OFIS managed to impress juries with original thinking and a clear approach."
