Frank Lloyd Wright

Prague – The Winternitz Villa in Prague will host a photography exhibition documenting the work of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, accessible after today's opening from Sunday. It is titled Principles of Organic Architecture and will showcase images by American photographer Andrew Pielage, who has decided to document the complete works of Wright.

According to Wright, organic architecture means expressing natural principles in the design of buildings that harmoniously blend with the landscape. He strongly advocated for structures that represent their environment, climate, and time. His fascination with the interaction between buildings and their surroundings led him to propose that structures seamlessly complement their surroundings and create unified spaces that seemingly emerge from the earth. He imagined buildings functioning as organisms, where every structural element is intricately interconnected, forming a harmonious whole.

Among his masterpieces is the famous house Fallingwater, which some experts call the most famous modern residential house in the world. It is visited by over 75,000 people each year. The house is located deep in the woods by the Bear Run mountain stream in southwest Pennsylvania. The nearly seventy-year-old architect was commissioned in the mid-1930s by the family of entrepreneur Edgar Kaufmann to build a weekend villa overlooking a waterfall. However, Wright built the house directly on it and made the waterfall a part of the structure.

"I have been following the work of photographer Andrew Pielage for several years. I have always admired his perfectly composed images of the phenomenal works of Frank Lloyd Wright, the most important representative of organic architecture of the last century. Andrew has decided to document the complete realized work of this American giant, which comprises over 430 buildings," said exhibition curator Adam Štěch.

The photographer embarks on journeys across the United States from his home in Phoenix, gradually fulfilling his dream. Together with his colleague, graphic designer Preston Charles, Pielage focuses on specific Wright's organic principles in the exhibition, illustrated through his photographs.
