With each new project, Japanese architects surpass themselves in how small a plot of land they need to create a generous family residence. The design by Takuro Yamamoto is located in the Edogawa district of Tokyo on the eastern edge of the city. The plot, measuring 70 m², is occupied by a building that only covers half of it. The other part serves as a parking space and a spacious covered terrace, which doubles the living area of the house. A delicate white wall prevents a panoramic view from the terrace on the eastern side. In addition to the main goal of creating a "small house with a large terrace," there was also the aim to provide a private outdoor space that would enhance the overall quality of living. From the living room with dining area, large-format windows lead to the terrace, which can be completely opened to connect both parts. The bedroom on the top floor of the house also opens to the covered space above the terrace, ensuring sufficient privacy amidst the densely built Japanese metropolis.
