Since last night until the end of July, an opera festival organized by the Bavarian State Opera will take place at Munich's Marstallplatz. The authors of the temporary pavilion, where the musical performances will be held, are Viennese Coop Himmelb(l)au. The spiky silver object named “Pavillon 21 Mini Opera Space” provokes with its form right behind the Bavarian National Theatre. The authors of the building drew inspiration from sound sequences from Mozart's Don Giovanni and Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix. The concept named “Spikes” is said by the architects to help divert surrounding noise away from the object. The temporary pavilion has a slightly provisional appearance: behind the perforated aluminum facade lies a steel structure. The festive red carpet that was supposed to cover the entrance ramp had to be replaced with red gravel. The pavilion, sponsored by the British car manufacturer Mini, cost 2.1 million euros and can be easily disassembled and rebuilt elsewhere at any time.
