Southend-on-Sea (Britain)/Prague - Sir Peter Cook, who will celebrate his 75th birthday on October 22, is a leading British architect. He came to prominence thanks to the experimental group Archigram, which he co-founded. His project "
Plug-in City" has become iconic. Cook's educational activities are also significant; he is associated with the Bartlett School of Architecture in London, passing on his experiences at various schools around the world. He is also the author of several professional publications.
After winning the competition for the Kunsthaus (House of Art) in Graz, Austria, in 2000, Cook, together with Colin Fournier, founded the office Spacelab Cook-Fournier. The extravagant building by the Mur River, known as "Friendly alien" (Friendly Alien), has been attracting attention since 2003. The Kunsthaus resembles a living organism not only in shape (for example, it has something like nostrils at the top of the building) but also in its expressions - emitting sounds and light effects.
In 1999, Cook received the Jean Tschumi Prize for his inspirational activities in the fields of architectural, exhibition, and installation concepts. Along with his colleagues from Archigram, he was awarded the RIBA Gold Medal in 2004.
