Peter Zumthor won the Prix Meret Oppenheim

The Swiss Federal Office of Culture in Bern (BAK) announced on Tuesday, October 31, 2006, the six winners of the sixth edition of the Prix Meret Oppenheim. The award, subsidized with an amount of 35,000 Swiss francs, will be presented to five personalities from the Swiss cultural scene alongside Peter Zumthor (artists Markus Raetz, Robert Suermondt, and Rolf Winnewisser, critic Dario Gamboni, and translator Catherine Schelbert). The prize is aimed at Swiss cultural creators and their intermediaries over the age of forty. It is intended to ease their creative work, as well as to facilitate a theoretical encounter with contemporary art, architecture, and their own creations. In addition to the financial prize, the winners will also receive publications featuring interviews about their work and theoretical thinking.
