Praemium Imperiale 2005 was awarded to Yoshio Taniguchi

Today, the awards for the Praemium Imperiale for 2005 will be ceremonially presented. The award, which is compared to the Nobel Prize in the field of arts, will be accepted for architecture by Yoshio Taniguchi, who celebrated his 68th birthday just yesterday. The other awardees (each will receive a prize worth 15 million yen) are American painter Robert Ryman, Japanese sculptor and fashion designer Issey Miyake, Argentine pianist Martha Argerich, and American choreographer and dancer Merce Cunningham.
