This weekend, a lecture hall at the educational center for livestock breeders and owners was officially opened in Landquart, Switzerland. The advisory center LBBZ Plantahof is located in the eastern Swiss canton of Graubünden. The purist design of the lecture hall comes from Valerio Olgiati and the engineering firm Conzett Bronzini Gartman. The project took about one year and cost 2 million Euros. The gray concrete monolith completes the new main square in the complex of the Plantahof agricultural school. The building, with its distinctive shed roof, stands out in the flat surroundings of Landquart like a solitary rock. Only two opposite windows direct light into the dim interior, dividing the space and offering a view from the newly created square towards the Prättigau valley. The multifunctional hall can accommodate 130-180 participants. In addition to a classic lecture hall, it can be used for scientific seminars, parliamentary sessions, and podium discussions. Dark additives are mixed into the concrete. Above the roof, a thin concrete wall is tensioned over the beams and trusses. The main supporting column extends out of the building. The load-bearing structure can be described as a hybrid between a skeleton and a massive construction.
