Adam Rujbr Architects are renovating the Svoboda cultural house in Cheb

Cheb - In Cheb, work has begun on the reconstruction of the Svoboda cultural house. Thanks to the most expensive investment in the city in recent years, a cultural facility with many utilization options, including a hall that can host balls, will be created. It will cost over 140 million korunas and is expected to be completed in December next year, said the city hall spokesperson Martina Kuželová to ČTK.
    The construction is being carried out by the winner of the competition, the consortium Algon, a.s. and Metrostav, a.s. "Currently, demolition work is being carried out inside the building, followed by individual stages of the demanding transformation of Svoboda according to the design by Adam Rujbr Architects. The construction will also include the creation of a pedestrian passage to the Lidl store," described the project Kuželová.
    The area of the existing facility will increase by about 50 percent due to the reconstruction. The basement, with former Baroque brewery cellars and other cellars from the early 20th century, will be transformed into club spaces for Rock café, which will be able to operate during larger events or completely independently. "There are plans for two rehearsal rooms for bands, a bar, a dance space, and a more comfortable restaurant for quiet seating that could also operate completely independently. The kitchen will be one floor up, via a serving elevator, so only a preparation area will be created below. The basement will also contain a boiler room, air conditioning, and maintenance areas," listed the city hall spokesperson.
    The main hall, with a maximum capacity of 500 seats, can be arranged flexibly, from balls and events with seating at tables to concerts. The telescopic grandstand, which can be extended up to one-third of the hall, will provide good visibility of the stage for a larger audience.
    The existing cultural facility, the Kamenná Production Center in the former Dominican monastery, can accommodate 300 seated persons, while the new Svoboda, when utilizing all spaces, should comfortably hold 600 people.
