Air House - the first place in architecture is ours!
11/10/2013 - Our race with the sun is approaching its end. Today we won 1st place in the Architecture discipline. Our excitement is immense! The overall winner of the Solar Decathlon 2013 will be decided tomorrow at 10 AM local time.
Over the weekend, AIR House was visited by over four thousand guests. Since Monday, expert juries have been evaluating five of the ten competition disciplines: Architecture, Engineering, Affordability, Market Appeal, and Communication. We are gradually finding out how we performed. Yesterday, we took 3rd place in Market Appeal, a discipline that assessed how suitable our house is for the chosen target group, how living in it feels, and what its market applicability is.
It’s a shame that photographs cannot capture the atmosphere of the shaded space one passes through on the way to the house or the terrace that is oriented to the north and is pleasant all day long.
We were surprised ourselves at how well the "house within a house" concept works. Compared to other houses, the AIR House requires minimal energy to maintain the internal environment within the values required by the competition rules. In the indoor comfort discipline (Comfort Zone), which monitors parameters of the internal environment, we briefly led, but now we are in third place.
Today, the ranking in the Architecture and Communication competitions was decided, which was won by the Austrian team. The only two European teams in the competition shone today. Our team is currently in fourth place, with the Austrian team leading.
Winning in Architecture is a great satisfaction for our team. It is a discipline that mattered to us and in which we had strong competition. According to the jury, the AIR House presents "architecture as a unique and beautiful experience, while being so simple and pure. By combining light and materials used, a cozy place is created where the internal and external living spaces are connected not only with each other, but also with natural elements, the Sun, and the surrounding nature."
